CBDT issues crypto reporting rules under new Income-tax Act

India's Central Board of Direct Taxes has released a guidance note directing crypto-asset service providers on reporting duties under the Income-tax Act 2025. It implements the OECD's G20-endorsed Crypto-Asset Reporting Framework for automatic cross-border tax-information sharing. Providers must flag users who are tax residents abroad and report crypto retail payments for goods or services above $50,000, while central-bank digital currencies are exempt.
