A 24-year-old, Kartik Dalal, suffered three spinal fractures when a basketball pole collapsed on him at Antriksh Heights in Gurgaon's Sector 84 on Sunday evening. Three masked, armed men robbed Lakshmi Jewellers on Irani Road in Dahanu town, Maharashtra's Palghar district, around 4.30pm on Monday. Police said the trio held staff and customers at gunpoint, seized gold ornaments and cash, then fired several shots while escaping by motorcycle through the crowded market. CCTV went viral online. The stolen value is unconfirmed and no arrests have been made.
Rajasthan's BJP government told the High Court on Monday it will complete the delayed panchayat and urban local body elections by November 15, once the OBC Political Representation Commission submits its report in August to set seat reservations. The court had earlier ordered delimitation finished by December 31 and polls held by April 15, a deadline the state missed.
A landslide sealed the under-construction Samardung tunnel at Mamring in South Sikkim on Monday afternoon, and the NDRF said one body had been recovered with 27 workers still feared trapped. A methane leak released by the slide has slowed the rescue, with some responders reported dizzy or unconscious. Two brothers in Karnataka's Davangere district exhumed their mother's body 79 days after burial and were carrying it by motorcycle towards a district hospital when they were stopped. Suresh Battini, Principal Chief Commissioner of Income Tax for Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, said in Visakhapatnam on Monday that direct tax collections across the two states grew 19.47% in the opening quarter of 2026-27.
