The Indian Coast Guard has rescued 170 people over three days during flood-relief operations across South Gujarat and the union territory of Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu, after heavy rain triggered flooding from July 22. Combining helicopter sorties and ground teams, it airlifted 63 stranded residents from Navsari's Mendar village and evacuated 60 from a Welspun industrial area.

The IMD forecasts widespread rain across India on Sunday, with Maharashtra and Odisha set for heavy to very heavy showers and Delhi expecting light rain. It has warned of flash-flood risk over 24 hours in parts of Gujarat's Saurashtra and Kutch, and in Jharkhand, Odisha and Chhattisgarh. Gujarat's Santalpur recorded 390mm in a day, amid an active monsoon trough.

About 45% of India's exports to the United States will not face the new 10% US tariff, the Commerce Ministry said on Saturday. The remaining 55% will attract the 'forced labour' levy, though at a lower rate than most other countries the US investigated. A special court in Bhopal rejected the bail plea of retired judge Giribala Singh on Saturday, citing the gravity of charges in the dowry-death case of model and actor Twisha Sharma. Singh, Twisha's mother-in-law, and her son Samarth Singh were arrested over alleged dowry harassment, mental abuse and domestic violence after Twisha was found dead at her marital home on May 12.

The company disclosed the decision in a regulatory filing on Friday after its board met. WhatsApp is developing an update that would replace its six-digit two-step verification PIN with a dedicated password to better protect accounts. Spotted in the Android beta version 2.26.29.4, the password would support more than six characters mixing letters and numbers, resisting guessing better than a numeric PIN. SMS registration stays in place, and WhatsApp has not set a rollout date.

Ukrainian attacks on holiday camps in the partly Russian-occupied Zaporizhzhia region killed 11 people, including four children, Moscow-installed officials said Saturday, with 16 wounded. Ukrainian authorities in the northeastern Sumy region said a Russian drone strike killed three. The strikes followed a major Russian assault near Kyiv on Friday that killed at least 10 and wounded around 100 in the four-year war.

IDFC First Bank reported a net profit of ₹1,075 crore for Q1 FY27, more than doubling from a year earlier, helped by strong business growth, improved asset quality and tighter cost management. Its net interest margin rose to 5.96% from 5.71% a year ago, a 25 basis-point gain. The lender said asset quality held up across retail, rural and SME books.

Southern China has evacuated more than 20,000 people and suspended rail services as Typhoon Noul approaches, with flights cancelled in Hong Kong. The storm is forecast to make landfall along the coast from Hong Kong to Guangdong province between Saturday evening and Sunday morning, the National Meteorological Center said, which issued an orange alert, the second-highest in its four-tier warning system.

Aneesh Mohan, 43, a geologist killed in a landslide at a tunnel construction site in Sikkim, was cremated at his home in Pampady near Kottayam on Saturday evening. Members of the public paid their respects, and Kerala Water Resources Minister Mons Joseph paid homage for the state government. His body was flown from Sikkim via Kolkata and Kochi with government help.

Filmmaker Chuck Russell, who directed the 1994 hit The Mask and horror titles A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors and The Blob, has died at 74. His wife, actor Ania Zeyne, said he died on July 22 at his San Diego-area home; the cause is unknown. Russell also directed Eraser and The Scorpion King. Jim Carrey paid tribute.
