Thousands of largely young, student protesters pushed through barricades and reached within about 100 metres of Parliament on Monday before being tear-gassed and baton-charged, The Hindu reported from the scene. A senior official said roughly 3,000 personnel were outnumbered despite an internet shutdown. The leaderless crowd, marching from Jantar Mantar over NEET exam grievances, was finally blocked by buses near the complex.

Delhi Police said more than 118 personnel were hurt during Monday's CJP protest, among them a Special Commissioner, a Joint Commissioner and several women officers, and that around 60 protesters were also injured. The force said demonstrators pelted stones, breached barricades and damaged 15 to 20 government vehicles. About 70 people were detained and an FIR is being registered.
