NSE's Electronic Gold Receipts let investors hold bullion without a locker

The National Stock Exchange launched Electronic Gold Receipts in May 2026, an exchange-traded segment for buying and selling gold electronically while retaining ownership of the physical metal. The framework traces to SEBI's Gold Exchange and Vault Managers rules approved in September 2021, EGRs being notified as securities that December, and a risk management framework issued in April 2022.
