Speaking to Fortune, FedEx chief executive Raj Subramaniam recalled overhearing his roommate turn down a FedEx interview in 1991, then phoning the recruiter himself to ask if he could send a resume. The IIT Bombay graduate, then finishing an MBA in Austin during a recession, joined in Memphis, led Asia-Pacific marketing from Hong Kong, and became CEO in 2022.
